Peace be with you, my brothers and sisters in Christ.
Lent is close upon us. Soon, we will enter into the Passion of Christ. With Ashes on our forehead and with an empty stomach as we fast, we journey with Christ toward the Cross. But first, we must travel to the mountain.
In Luke 9, we are told that Christ was Transfigured before Peter, James, and John. This was a defining moment in the ministry and life of Christ. In this event, Christ fully reveals His Glory and Divinity to these three. And immediately afterward, we read the ominous words, in verse 51, “… Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.”
Verse 51, then, is where He intentionally begins the journey to the Cross. And it happens immediately after this mountain top experience. He descends the Mountain, after being Transfigured, only to set out toward the Cross.
In this way, the Transfiguration and the Passion of the Christ are intimately connected. In some ways, we could state that the Transfiguration is the transition point between the general ministry of Christ and that of His great Passion.
With this in mind, we will focus our attention on the Transfiguration of Christ this upcoming Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023.
It is the perfect service to have before we enter into the Lenten season.
I will be preaching from Rev. 1:9-16. In that passage, we see another “Transfiguration” moment. On the island of Patmos, Christ gives John the Great Revelation.
So, I welcome you to attend the service.
You can prepare by reading Rev. 1:9-16.
As always, if you are unable to attend, you can livestream our service right here (on our Facebook page) at 11am.
You can also livestream it from our brand new website!
