Pastor’s Weekly Update

Peace be with you, my friends.

During Lent, the three acts in which the Church most commonly engages are praying, fasting, and charity. Charity is defined as the voluntary giving of help. Biblically, help is defined as Service to the other. Such service is intended to make it so that the person(s) can experience life to the fullest. To experience life as God intended it to be experienced. To experience the joy and wonder of life. Such life is to be experienced holistically. As such, the call of the Christian is to serve others, helping them in charity, so that they might experience life, both holistically and completely.

When we view charity through this paradigm, we will begin to enact charity in a more vibrant and robust way. We will begin to look at the entirety of the individual, seeking to help them completely and fully.

As we continue our sermon series, the Spiritual Disciplines of the Christian Life, we shift our focus to this important topic. How does the Old Testament expand our understanding on charity and call us to a deeper meeting of the needs of others?

You can prepare for the service, March 19, 2023, by reading Deut. 15: 1-18 (with special emphasis and attention given to vs. 11).
It is my prayer and hope to see you there and, if you are able to attend it, I pray that God richly bless you during the service.

As always, if you are unable to attend, you can livestream our service on our Facebook page at 11am.
With compassion, love, and prayer,
Pastor Michael
