Peace be with you, my friends.
This upcoming Sunday is Father’s day! It is a day where we focus our attention on fathers. Where we celebrate and honor them.
Often times, when referring to the first member of the Trinity, we call God “our Father.” We say this because our language fails us and we are only able to comprehend God in the light and speech of analogy. Thus, God is like a Father unto us. Like a good father, God cares for us. Like a good father, God provides for us. Like a good father, God protects us. Like a good father, God fellowships with us. Like a good father, God laughs with us. Like a good father, God disciplines us. Like a good father, God guides and teaches us.
Therefore, this Sunday, we give our primary focus and attention to God, the “Father.” Above all other fathers, we first and foremost honor and celebrate God the “Father.”
We shall do this on Sunday through song, sermon, and sacrament. So come enjoy the singing! Come enjoy the sermon (I hope)! And come enjoy the Eucharist!
