Peace be with you, my friends.
My wife and I will, at times, playfully bicker. Most of the time, it centers around my way or her way of doing things. My way is to blast the AC on in our room at 60o F while we are not home because I want the room to be cold when we arrive inside the room. Her way, however, is to turn it off while we are gone because it “wastes electricity.” Also, she thinks such a temperature is too cold! Or, my way of folding fitted sheets is to just jumble them in a ball and toss them into the linen closest because it’s easier for me to learn how to read ancient Greek and Hebrew than fold those things. My wife, on the other hand, must be some sort of wizard using divine magic because her way of folding it is to actually fold it! Like, how? Or, my way of playing a game, which is to just have fun, not caring who wins, versus her way of playing games, which is to win because winning is fun!
Of course, all of this is insignificant, and when we bicker about our differences, it is done in a playful and laughable way. However, such a reality raises an interesting observation. We all have differences in how we do things. I am sure you can relate. We all have “our way.” We all know people who do it differently, doing it “their way.” And every time we encounter this reality, we have a choice to make. Will I do it my way, or will I do it their way?
Such a reality is not only present in our human-human relationships, but also in our human-Divine relationship. The relationship in which we have with God. My way versus God’s way. And just like our human-human relationships, we all have a choice to make with our relationship with God. Will I do it my way, or will I do it God’s way?
