Pastor’s Weekly Update

Peace be with you, my friends.

School is back in session! All across the USA, there are both children excited to go back to school and children bemoaning going back to school. High School Juniors and Seniors are planning the next phase of their life and experiencing “Senioritis.” And parents all around are rejoicing that the children are returning. They can finally have some peace and quiet in the house!

Like many other nations with similar systems and beliefs, the USA is deeply invested in the education of its people. In the 1830s, widespread reform saw free public education take root throughout the nation. In 1965, the “Elementary and Secondary Education Act” was passed. And in 1994, “America’s school Act” was passed. Many other acts were also passed over the course of our history. All of them with an intent to better foster the educational system in the country. Sadly, some states and state leaders want to harm the educational system with banning of books and other policies. Such actions will lead to disaster for the less educated one is, then the more ignorant they will become. And such ignorance can lead to disaster. There is a reason why statistics overwhelmingly reveal that the higher a person’s and communities’ education, the more likely they are to succeed in life (economically, socially, emotionally, etc.).

If, therefore, we have such a desire for education, should not that educational desire also apply to our religious and spiritual growth?
Such a lesson and call is taught to us in the latter portion of Judges. A portion that teaches us the importance of Scriptural education and the dangers of Scriptural ignorance.

If you want to learn more about this lesson, and learn from it, (which I hope you do ), then I invite you to attend this upcoming Sunday worship service, Sept. 10, 2023.

You can prepare for it by reading the tragic story of Jephthah and his daughter in Judges, Chapter 11.

As always, if you are unable to attend, you can livestream our service right here at 11am.
You can also livestream it from our brand new website! www.dansvilleumc.org

With compassion, love, and prayer,
Pastor Michael
