Peace be with you, my friends.
Have you ever relied on anything or anyone? No matter how independent you think you are as a person, there is always someone, some system, or some thing in which you rely for your everyday life and activities. When you go grocery shopping, you rely on the workers to stock the shelves, clean the bathrooms, and help you check out. When you go to the hospital, you rely on the nurses and doctors for health. When you get therapy, you rely on the therapist for good counsel. When you watch a sports game, you rely on the teams to entertain you. When we eat Thanksgiving dinner with our families, we rely on each member of the family in some degree and fashion. This is also true for systems and things. We rely on the government to govern society properly, and when they do not, we actively try to change it so that we can rely on them. We rely on the Church to lead us to God. We rely on phones to make calls. We rely on computers to send emails. We rely on cars to drive us from point A to point B. Indeed, no matter how “independent” we behave, we are, nevertheless, a people of dependence. We depend on people. Things. Systems.
We are also a people of confession. We all have various beliefs, convictions, and opinions. And we use our mouths, quite often, to declare and confess those beliefs, convictions, and opinions. One minute on FaceBook will reveal that!
We are a people of dependence and we are a people of confession. So, when it comes to matters that are truly important…matters with Spiritual significance and eternality…to whom do we depend and rely? To what do we confess and acknowledge?
