Bible Study

“Through the Bible”

How do you come to know God? How do you come to know your identity and purpose in God? What is the purpose of humanity? Everyone asks these questions. Sadly, many of us never take time to reflect on these questions, nor do we seek to answer them. The good news is that there is an answer to all of these questions and more. The answers are found in Holy Scripture. Far more than a simple book, the Bible is the specific and explicit revelation to humanity of Gods-self. It is through reading Scripture we come to know God, come to know God’s ways, come to know God’s desires, and come to know ourselves. Moreover, Scripture is sacramental, drawing us closer into relationship, fellowship, and intimacy with the Lord.

This is why John Wesley commented: “At any price, give me the book of God!” So dedicated to the Word of God was he, Wesley often stated that he was homo unius libri (“a man of one book”).  Are we, as Christians, men and women of one book? How well do we know this one book? We can never learn enough and we can always grow closer to God. Reading Scripture is a lifelong endeavor and one of the greatest adventures upon which a Christian partakes.

Therefore, every Thursday evening beginning at 5:30pm, Dansville United Methodist Church holds a Bible Study called Through the Bible. Led by Pastor Michael Whitcomb-Tavey, the group explores the Scriptures and endeavors to both understand them and to implement its life and truth into their lives.

They are currently exploring the book of Genesis.

All are welcome to attend!
