Pastor Michael G. Whitcomb-Tavey
He is married to Karissa Whitcomb-Tavey, and has with her three children, Noah (10), John (6), and Alithea (5).
Pastor Michael G. Whitcomb-Tavey has been a minister in the UMC since 2015, but has been serving in ministry since 2008. A native of Southern California, he grew up in Riverside, CA. After serving in the US Navy as an Operation Specialist, receiving an honorable discharge, he moved to South Carolina, where he attended Southern Wesleyan University. While attending the University, he joined the Wesleyan denomination, serving them in ministry within various pastoral roles and positions. He also completed his course work, receiving a BA in Christian ministry and a BA in Psychology.
Afterward, he attended Asbury Theological Seminary, where he received an MDIV with a specialization in Biblical Studies, and also received entry into the National Greek Honors Society. While attending Seminary, he made the prayfully difficult decision to resign from the Wesleyan Denomination and join the United Methodist Church.
In 2018, he and his family moved to upstate New York, where he currently serves both Dansville United Methodist Church and Naples Trinity Federated Church as the Senior Pastor. Before this appointment, he served Conesus United Methodist Church and Scottsburg United Methodist Church as the Senior Pastor. Whilst in the Wesleyan Denomination, he served as the College Pastor at United Wesleyan Church (SC), was Pastor-on-loan to St. Andrews United Methodist Church (SC), and taught at Southern Wesleyan University as an Adjunct Professor of Religious and Theological studies.
He has also written Daily Bible Studies devotionals for the Adult Bible Study ministries of the UMC, has written numerous book reviews for Asbury Theological Seminary, and currently serves on committee of the UMC’s Safe Sanctuary team, where he trains local churches (clergy and lay) on how to implement policies and procedures that help to keep children, youth, and vulnerable adults safe while they also learn about God and Gods Kingdom.
He has a deep passion to see all people come to know God, to find healing, wholeness, and sanctification in Christ, and for them to find their purpose and identity within the Kingdom of God, which is the Church manifested on earth.
He enjoys spending time with his family, reading books, building PCs, and is an avid PC gamer.
